Two Marshall County natives are among the 33 new Indiana State Police troopers sworn in this week. Benjamin A. Beers of Plymouth and Timothy G. Borsa of Bourbon officially graduated from the State Police Recruit Academy during a ceremony at the State Capitol Thursday. It marked the end of 24 weeks of training in criminal and traffic law, crash investigations, firearms, and a bunch of other modern policing subjects, according to ISP officials.
Beers will be assigned to the Toll Road District, while Borsa will be based out of the Lowell Post. For the next three months, they’ll be working alongside a series of field training officers. After that, they’ll be assigned a patrol vehicle and will begin solo patrol.
Thursday’s graduation ceremony featured remarks from Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter and a commencement address by Governor Eric Holcomb. Indiana Supreme Court Justice Christopher Goff then administered the oath of office to the 33 new troopers.
