When the Plymouth City Council met last night, they held a public hearing over the American Containers, Inc tax abatement. No public comments were provided so the hearing was adjourned.
During a previous meeting, the council acted on the resolution approving the location in which American Containers, Inc is positioned to be within an area designated as a Economic Revitalization Area making the company eligible for potential tax abatement.
Last night the council took the second step in the expansion process by holding the public hearing and approving the seven-year, phase in, real and personal property tax abatement.
Marshall County Economic Development Corporation Communications and Marketing Manager Nancy Tyree spoke on behalf of the Marshall County EDC, reiterating their support for American Container’s expansion.
President Mike Isban addressed the council, and alerted them that one proposed installation will be done in a little over a week and another has already taken place. City Attorney Sean Surrisi mentioned that special language was added to the resolution to include the equipment that was already installed in the items approved for tax abatement.
According to a press release from the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation, this resolution approval means approximately $547,500 will be invested to upgrade equipment in the Plymouth facility. Building improvements and the purchase of a press pre-feeder and automation equipment will be included in the expansion. These additions will increase efficiency and improve automation at the facility while also helping retain sixty-two current employees and facilitate the creation of one new full time position.
