Marshall County’s unemployment rate is up from the previous month, but still slightly better than the same period a year ago. According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the county’s August unemployment rate was 3.6 percent, an increase of 0.7 percent from July.
That’s still a bit better than in August 2016, when Marshall County’s unemployment rate was 3.7 percent. But the actual number of people working has dropped slightly, along with the county’s labor force.
At the same time, Marshall County continues to see lower unemployment than the state average. Indiana’s August unemployment rate was four percent, while the U.S. as a whole had a rate of 4.5 percent. Elkhart County had the lowest unemployment of Marshall County’s neighbors at three percent, while Starke County was highest at 4.6 percent.
