Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt and his staff is keeping busy this construction season with several hundred permits issued this year. That’s what he reported to the Marshall County Commissioners this week.
“We have over $25 million in permit values and we have 405 building permits and over 110 electric permits. That gives us about 600 permits that we’ve issued so far this year. We’re on track to have the busiest year we’ve ever had,” said DeWitt.
Over 200 inspections were conducted in July and 201 were conducted in August. He said he’s been able to keep up with everything with some long days sprinkled in the schedule.
He mentioned that a change in policy on roofing permits is working as he had hoped. He is able to meet with contractors to fix issues before they leave the site. DeWitt said this helps protect the homeowner in keeping contractors true to work performed. Not all residents get permits for roofing projects and those are being dealt with on a case by case basis.
DeWitt also reported that two houses were found to be substandard for health reasons. Meanwhile, the condition and action on three other homes lies in the court system. One home is in Bourbon and two are in Culver.
