Marshall County’s June Unemployment Rate Down from Last Year, Up from Prior Month

Marshall County saw a drop in its June unemployment rate compared to last year, but the actual number of people working has also declined. Last month, Marshall County reported 2.6-percent unemployment, compared to 3.8-percent in June 2016, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

But during that same period, the number of people in the labor force also declined, and 66 fewer people were working in June 2017 than in June 2016. Last month’s unemployment rate was also 0.2 percent higher than the May figure.

Marshall County continues to outperform the state as a whole, which had an unemployment rate of 3.1 percent in June. The national rate was 4.5 percent.

Of Marshall County’s neighbors, Elkhart County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.3 percent. Starke County had the highest at 3.5 percent.
