Marshall and most of its surrounding counties posted May unemployment rates below the state average, according to statistics from the Department of Workforce Development.
Indiana’s non-seasonally-adjusted rate for the month was 2.8 percent. Marshall is well below that at 2.3 percent, while St. Joseph County is tied with the state for the month. Elkhart County has the lowest unemployment rate in the area at 2.1 percent. Kosciusko County posted 2.2 percent, and Fulton County hit 2.7 for the month of May.
Of Marshall County’s neighbors, only Starke is above the state’s non-seasonally-adjusted average, sitting at 3.2 percent.
