Marshall County Council Discusses Pay Increases

The Marshall County Council will be entering into budget negotiations soon and discussed the potential for full-time employee salary increases.

Historically, the council has always recommended a three percent raise each year. Councilwoman Penny Lukenbill said it’s not known where the county will sit at the time the budget discussion begins and the three percent increase may not be met.

Council President Judy Stone said there have been times when the council has not had the luxury of approving a three percent increase. It’s been lower due to constraints on funding. She stressed there are no guarantees at this point.

The council did unanimously approve a motion to give department heads a notice to prepare budgets with an increase not to exceed three percent. Those budget requests are due July 1. The council will decide during budget session in August of whether or not a three percent raise can be allowed.
