Commissioners Approve Secure Entry into Marshall County Building

The Marshall County Commissioners approved a plan on Monday to tighten security at the Marshall County Building.

The safety committee proposed unlocking the building around 7:45-7:50 a.m. as opposed to 6:30 a.m. every weekday.  The doors would lock promptly at 4 p.m. at the end of the business day.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer also requested the north stairwell be locked going up from the ground floor so the general public has to pass by security before conducting business inside the county building.

County Auditor Julie Fox suggested keeping the doors locked all the way until 8 a.m. and the security officer could allow employees in prior to 8 a.m. if shown proper identification.  She noted that department heads themselves could also allow the employees to enter the building.

Employees would use the north entrance only.

The commissioners voted unanimously to keep the county building closed to the general public until 8 a.m. and to lock the north stairwell on the ground floor.  The stairwell can still be utilized to depart the building from the other two floors in the event of an emergency.
