The Plymouth School Board has approved the 2017-2018 school calendar. The first day of classes will be Wednesday, August 2, 2017, with the last day Wednesday, May 30, 2018.
Superintendent Dan Tyree told the school board Tuesday that there was some discussion about giving students the Thursday before Labor Day off, during Blueberry Festival preparations. In the end, teachers recommended starting Christmas break a day early, instead.
It will now run from December 22 through January 9 for students, with a day less for teachers. Tyree pointed out that period includes three weekends, to make it easier for families that want to travel.
No snow makeup days were specified, but Tyree suggested using Martin Luther King Day and Presidents’ Day, if necessary. He noted that the corporation typically uses virtual learning days if regular classes are canceled, with makeup days only becoming necessary if more than four virtual days are held in a row.
