The Plymouth Community School Board Monday approved a contract extension for Superintendent Dan Tyree. The extension is effective from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2019. Compensation is retroactive to July 1, 2016.
Tyree will earn an annual base salary of $116,502, with benefits bringing his compensation total to $152,868.
His group health, dental and vision premiums, which total $22,571 annually, and his gasoline allowance of $3,500 per year will be paid as additional basic salary, according to the contract.
That’s done for Tyree’s benefit when his 20 highest calendar quarters are used to compute his state retirement benefits. School corporation officials say that’s an accepted practice from the Indiana State Teachers’ Retirement Fund’s perspective.
Tyree will also be allowed 12 sick days and 20 vacation days annually, as well as other generally recognized holiday breaks provided for staff members in the school calendar.
The school board will evaluate the superintendent annually using the same categories applied to teachers and other administrators. These include: highly effective, effective, needs improvement or ineffective. Salary changes will be based on performance, which is the standard for any certified employee.
The board reviews the superintendent’s salary and benefits each year and may approve changes in base salary, contributions or allowances at that time. The board also determines what amount, if any, should be awarded under the performance-based pay provisions of the contract.
