A South Bend woman was airlifted to a Fort Wayne Hospital Monday afternoon with multiple injuries following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Fir Road and Lincoln Highway.
Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department determined a 2004 Hyundai four-door car driven by 24-year-old Brittani A. Smith of South Bend was northbound on Fir Road approaching the stop sign at Lincoln Highway and did not yield to an eastbound 2005 Chrysler driven by 78-year-old Sarah L. Kauffman of Etna Green.
Both vehicles came to rest in a nearby field. Smith had to be cut from the wreckage and was airlifted to Fort Wayne with multiple, unspecified injuries.
Kauffman complained of pain to her head and neck and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigators say alcohol is not a factor in the accident.
Bourbon Fire/EMS and the Plymouth Fire Department assisted with the response.
