A federal law enforcement agency and a trade organization are offering a sizeable reward for information about the recent burglary at a Rochester gun shop.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the Nov. 20 break-in at the Sand Burr Gun Shop at 2111 E. 350 N. in Rochester. Investigators say someone entered the business between 12:30 and 3:30 a.m. and took more than 50 firearms from the business.
The ATF and National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, are each offering $5,000 rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the burglary.
ATF Chicago Field Division Acting Special Agent in Charge George H. Lauder says stolen firearms are used by violent criminals to perpetrate additional crimes.
The reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF rewards in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers. ATF works closely with members of the firearms industry to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (800-283-4867). All calls will be kept confidential.
