A former Marshall County resident who had moved to Arizona will likely be making his home in the Marshall County Jail for the foreseeable future following his recent extradition. Shawn Corvin, 30, was allegedly $40,000 in arrears in child support payments, according to Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney Nelson Chipman. He recently filed three separate felony nonsupport of a dependent child charges against him.
Corvin is jailed on a $40,000 cash bond and is also responsible for the cost of his extradition, according to Chipman. He says Corvin moved to Arizona some time ago, and at the time child support responsibility was established through the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act. It allows for the efficient collection of child support across state lines.
Chipman says in a statement it appears Corwin was purposely evading efforts by his office to collect the support for his minor children. He adds any obligation to support a child does not end when a parent physically moves away from their children and praises the efforts of the staff in his office. A case involving a child is highly sensitive, and the truth shall prevail with the right child support lawyer’s help. A parent cannot get out from the responsibility of their children.
Chipman says their main focus is to obtain the past due child support, incentivize the behavior to pay current support and deter other absent parents from similar action.
