Marshall County voters had their say at the polls on Election Day.
Over 61 percent of the eligible voters cast a ballot on Tuesday. Those choosing to vote early or absentee made up 19 percent of that total. The number of absentee ballots in Marshall County totaled 5,741 while 12,823 Election Day ballots were cast. Clerk Deb VanDeMark commented that 18 provisional votes will be counted on Friday, Nov. 18.
Poll workers in all the 12 county vote centers delivered Tuesday night’s results just before 8 p.m. ET.
There were six contested races in Marshall County. Republican Mike Delp, Sr. will be the County Commissioner on the District 2 seat. He defeated Democratic candidate Rex A. Crump with a vote count of 11,692 to 5,737.
The three candidates with the highest number of votes would claim the County Council At-large seats. Republicans Penny Lukenbill, Incumbents Jim Masterson and Jon VanVactor were elected to the council. Lukenbill, the county’s current Treasurer, received the highest number of votes with 11,078. Masteron logged 10,948 and VanVctor had 9,841 votes. They defeated Democrats John Nifong with 5,190 votes, Julian (Jud) Rouch with 3,364 votes and Donna R. Wenzel with 4,384 votes.
In the Bremen School Board District 1 race, it was Brian Teall gathering the win over Clarence (Adrian) Mark. Jesse Bohannon claimed the Bremen School Board District 3 over opponents Hope Jordan and Andrew Porter.
Five candidates threw their hat into the ring for the Plymouth School Board At-large seat. It was Larry E. Holloway receiving the most votes with 3,021 cast in his favor. For the Union-North United School Board Union Township seat, Arden W. Balmer received the majority of the votes with 774. His opponent, Dennis D. Graf, received 503 votes.
Voters were able to cast a ballot at any of the 12 vote centers in Marshall County. The plan has been under revision since May’s primary election.
Most of the poll workers reported a steady stream of voters throughout the 12 available voting hours.
