The Plymouth Board of Works hopes that a couple new stops signs will correct a potential safety hazard in the city. The board voted Monday to make the intersection of Hillcrest, Pearson, and Westgate a four-way stop, after city officials received several complaints from residents.
Board member Mike Delp said he didn’t realize it wasn’t a four-way stop already. “I think it’s a good thing you’re doing it because whenever I go west, I thought it was a four-way stop,” he said. “So I’m not so sure I wouldn’t have pulled out in front of somebody there, seriously. I had no idea that wasn’t a four-way stop there because it seems like the other street is the primary street. So I’m very comfortable with it.”
Mayor Mark Senter said he’s lived in the area for 23 years, and the intersection hasn’t been a problem, yet. “The traffic has picked up enormously in the last six or seven years,” he said. “And I don’t know how many crashes have been there if there have been any, but it’s going to happen one of these days.”
The Plymouth Board of Works approved the change unanimously.
