Get into the spirit of the holiday season by observing Giving Tuesday today. The movement to encourage thoughtful, charitable giving to start the Christmas season is in its fifth year.
Volunteer organizers of the Culver area schools Blessings in a Backpack program hope to expand the program to cover more students, longer school breaks and “emergency food” when necessary through the school social worker.
The goal of Blessings in a Backpack is to make sure elementary students still receive the proper nutrition on days when they’re not getting meals at school.
Donations can be made via the Blessings in a Backpack website, but be sure to designate Culver Elementary in the drop down box. Otherwise the donation goes to the general fund.
Donations can also be mailed to Blessings in a Backpack, c/o Dianne Johnson, Program Coordinator, 306 N Ohio St, Culver IN 46511.
The program operates as a 501c3 nonprofit, so all donations are fully tax deductible.
Using the hashtag #GivingTuesday on social media helps to raise awareness of the grassroots movement. Donations of time, resources and talents to address local needs can also make a big difference.
