The City of Plymouth has finalized some incentives for Viking Paper Corporation. The Common Council Monday approved a seven-year personal and real property tax abatement and confirmed its declaration of the property as an Economic Revitalization Area.
Viking Paper Corporation specializes in triple-walled sheets and other products for the corrugated box industry. During a public hearing Monday, President Justin Mooter reminded council members the company plans to invest about $2.1 million in building expansion and $1.5 million in capital equipment in the next two years. “There’s a rail spur and a new rail line, and that line will go inside the new building,” he added. “We’ll be able to spot three rail cars at a time. So there will be a door that will open, and the three cars will actually be spotted inside. The train will pull out; the door will come back down.” Meanwhile, the company says the equipment upgrades will allow it to double speed of the facility’s production line.
Viking Paper Corporation began in Toledo, Ohio in 1981 and added its Plymouth facility in 1993. The Plymouth location currently employs 35 workers, according to the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation. The MCEDC says Viking Paper has experienced notably low employee turnover, and many of its workers have been there for over 15 years.
