Sheriff’s Department Collects Hundreds of Pounds of Prescription Drugs

prescription-pills1-300x191The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is touting the success of their ongoing prescription drug take back efforts.

Over the past 10 months, the department has collected 993 pounds of discarded medications. The Sheriff’s Department has three drop locations for unwanted and unused drugs.

Law enforcement divisions across the country host the events as a way to prevent theft and prescription drug abuse.

The Sheriff’s Department in Marshall County says they have three drop locations for the unwanted drugs. Those are located at the Sheriff’s Department, Culver Police Department, and the Bremen Police Department.

The bids are able to be accessed 24 hours a day in the lobby of those departments.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Department says that ridding your cabinets of unused medicine can prevent misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the state are considered high with studies showing that a majority of overdoses results from medicine left in home cabinets.
