Menominee Elementary School in Plymouth will be a bit more recognizable in the near future.
The school’s Parent Teacher Organization has worked to fundraise for multiple projects over the years, most recently a new playground that opened one year ago. In 2016, the PTO was ready to take on a different project.
It’s been shared with the PTO by parents and community members numerous times that the elementary school does not have signage to advertise itself while traveling along Nutmeg Drive. After some consideration, the PTO determined that the words “Menominee Elementary School” should be attached to the building.
Under the current plans, the sign will span 480 inches with 16 inch tall letters. While addressing the Plymouth School Board this week, the PTO said they believe this type of signage will be the most cost effective and the most aesthetically pleasing.
Total cost for the project will depend on timing as the PTO hopes they will be able to obtain a lift with little or no cost to help construct the sign. The Plymouth School Board probed whether permits or zoning variances were needed to complete the project.
The school board approved the project unanimously. The PTO will now seek advice for the city of Plymouth on future steps for the signage.
