Plymouth’s fall street and sidewalk projects will soon be getting underway.
Last week, the Board of Works ratified City Engineer Rick Gaul’s decision to award the bid for the work to Phend & Brown of Milford. “They were looking at coming in October 30, and said they’ll be done in two weeks,” Gaul told board members. Phend & Brown submitted the lowest bid, for $674,922.
Gaul also reported that the city had its funding request for improvements to Hoham Drive approved by the Indiana Department of Transportation. He said the matching grant will help cover the cost of reconstructing the section of Hoham from Michigan Street to just west of Western Avenue. “This is 80-20,” Gaul said. “This will be taking that one section there, going from two lanes to three lanes, putting new curb in, addressing drainage.”
However, motorists will have to wait a bit longer for these improvements. Construction’s not expected to begin for at least another four years.
Gaul added that INDOT has changed the funding process a bit. “Typically in the past, they gave you a lump sum of money,” he explained. “You split it between your preliminary engineering, right of way, construction, and construction engineering. Now they give you the funding for the contract. You have to request money for the preliminary engineering. So each of these are individual steps that we have to go through.”
Gaul planned to discuss the project further with INDOT officials last week. INDOT awarded the city $2.14 million in federal transportation funds for the work.
