The Floor Store & More in Downtown Plymouth is again getting help from the city to pay for some exterior work. The Plymouth Common Council Monday approved a Commercial Revitalization Rebate Program Grant for the property. The program allows the city to provide a rebate of up to 20 percent for exterior improvements.
This is the second such grant request since last year. Owner Rocky Talcott says this application will cover work that wasn’t ready to be included in last year’s request. “This is actually what I guess we kind of considered phase two of this project last year when I was in,” he said. “Last year, you approved, basically, the front of my building, and that was for repainting and a new awning, which was completed last fall. And so that’s all done, and also since then, which is not part of any of this, I also put new windows in.”
Now, Talcott says he’s ready to proceed with gutter work at the property at a cost of $947. However, his application also includes roof work that was done last year. “We had a problem right away with the roof, and I had to get the roof fixed already,” he explained. “If anybody wants to question that, they could come look at my walls and my ceiling in my store, but we were getting some major water leaks in there, so I had that done.”
Talcott said due to the urgency of the work, he only got one $8,000 bid. While council members said they normally wouldn’t approve a project after the fact or without having at least two bids, they understood the unusual circumstances.
They decided to approve the Commercial Revitalization Rebate Program Grant, unanimously.
