The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation is busy visiting with government bodies in Marshall County to review its annual report.
During Monday’s Marshall County Commissioner’s meeting, MCEDC Executive Director Jerry Chavez reported on some of the organization’s activities over the last year. In specific, the successes experienced with the Regional Cities announcement that will build projects to improve communities throughout Marshall County.
Chavez says MCEDC was deliberate in trying to ensure the Regional Cities projects had a focus for each community.
“Look at the aquatic center and obviously it’s something that directly impacts Plymouth but one that will service the county,” says Chavez. “The e-centers, or entrepreneurship centers, Culver and Plymouth specifically. Housing across the board, Bourbon Bremen, Culver, and Plymouth. They all get a share in that $1.76-[million].”
INDOT’s maintenance facility – which is currently under construction – was also highlighted in Monday’s report.
Business attraction and development is also a major part of the MCEDC’s activities, including the recent successes of millions of dollars in capital investment for Homestead Dairy. Chavez says the business will, in the future, serve as a model for dairies across the country.
He also says Pretzels Inc. starting a production facility in Plymouth was also a major grab.
“I think what we’ll see at the end of the day is that Pretzels Inc. capital investment will exceed initial projects and one being driven by the marketplace,” says Chavez.
Pretzels Inc. is expected to hire between 60 and 65 employees as work progresses.
The MCEDC also continues efforts on workforce development. The Department of Workforce Development has been in discussions with Marshall County about implementing and improving programs for more than two years.
The MCEDC’s annual report will be able to be accessed on its website.
