Patrol deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department issued 44 tickets and 53 warnings during a recently completed enforcement blitz. They took part in the national and statewide 2016 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over 2016 campaign.
Officers also arrested two people for driving while intoxicated in Marshall County.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports an average of one alcohol-related fatality occurred every 53 minutes in 2014. That’s the last year for which data is available. Additionally, NHTSA statistics show each year on average, more than 10,000 people die on U.S. roadways due to intoxicated driving.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over is an annual enforcement effort supported by federal highway safety funding. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute distributes funding to more than 250 participating Indiana law enforcement agencies.
