‘Tis the season for supporting candidates for elected office and the Indiana Department of Transportation is reminding residents to keep campaign signs out of the right-of-way.
INDOT says the signs can block traffic visibility at intersections and the right-of-way along the sides of the roadway. It may be difficult for some residents to pinpoint exactly where the right-of-way lies, but INDOT says using fence lines, utility poles, and the back of ditches is a good guide.
Where signs are encroaching on the side of roadways, INDOT says they have the authority to remove them under Indiana code. Residents can often pick-up their signs from local highway departments or INDOT districts if they find their campaign signs missing.
