The Indiana Department of Transportation is funding several rural road and infrastructure projects, and they’re using federal transportation funding to do it.
Nearly $80-million was awarded to 64 cities, towns, and counties for roads, bridges, sidewalks, and trail projects. When partnered with a 20-percent local match for the grant funds plus some other investment, about $135-million is being invested in infrastructure through this avenue.
Local governments were among the recipients of the grant funds. Marshall County received $1.6-million for a bridge replacement project. Meanwhile, the City of Plymouth was awarded $2.14-million for Hoham Drive reconstruction.
This is the first year INDOT is awarding funds specifically for sidewalk improvements. Crosswalk improvements are also on the list of fundable projects.
While the funds awarded now are dedicated to construction, INDOT will be financially participating in design work for the projects.
