Indiana State Police Expand Voter Registration Fraud Investigation

InvestigationThe ongoing investigation into allegations of fraudulent voter application information has spread to 56 of Indiana’s 92 counties, including several in our area.

The latest list provided by the Indiana State Police includes LaPorte, Marshall, Fulton, Jasper, Kosciusko, Lake, Newton and Cass Counties.

The Indiana State Police served a search warrant on Oct. 4 at the Indianapolis office of the Indiana Voter Registration Project. Investigators are looking into reports of fraudulent or false information, including combination of made up names and made up addresses, real names with made up or incorrect addresses and false dates of births with real names as well as combinations of all these examples.

They say victims may not discover they have been disenfranchised from voting until they go to the polls and realize their information has been altered. If that’s the case, they might have to cast a provisional ballot. Investigators add it’s not possible at this time to determine how many registered voters may have been affected.

All registered Indiana voters are urged to visit https://indianavoters.in.gov to confirm they are properly registered. Voters have until Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. to update their information or register.
