Bremen High School seniors are getting a closer look at career opportunities in Marshall County as part of a Manufacturing Day initiative.
It’s a national program in which manufacturers open their doors to showcase their businesses and foster interest in careers.
The more than 120 students toured five manufacturing facilities yesterday, including NISCO, Digger Specialties, Southwire, Bremen Castings and Precision Painting. Marshall County Economic Development Corporation officials say all of the companies were eager to introduce students to the types of work they do and the variety of high-skill jobs available in manufacturing fields.
Workforce development with an emphasis on area youth is part of MCEDC’s long-term strategy to create a future workforce that meets the needs of businesses.
Bremen High School officials say site tours give students a unique opportunity to learn more about fields that often get overlooked.
Marshall County is home to more than 120 manufacturers, nine U.S. headquarters and seven international companies. MCEDC plans to expand this event and expose students throughout the county to Marshall County manufacturers and the variety of careers they offer. Plymouth High School plans to conduct site tours with local manufacturers in November, and similar events with other schools throughout the county are in the works.
