The 50th Marshall County Blueberry Festival gets underway this afternoon. In addition to the carnival rides, musical performances, and fireworks display, the festival also includes a sizable craft fair.
Emily Bowser oversees the crafts portion of the festival. She says this year, it will include about 300 vendors specializing in all sorts of crafts. “I just signed somebody up that makes cowboy boots,” she says. “There’s a lady coming that’s doing all kinds of John Deere Tractor things and makes all those wood items. I’ve got a lot of people that do flowers or pictures. I’ve got hand-painted things. There’s just a very big variety of all kinds of stuff.”
Bowser says it takes her much of the year to organize the crafts at the Blueberry Festival, “[I] start setting it up, doing the maps in January and putting the people in that have prepaid for the next year.”
She also has a bit of advice for potential craft enthusiasts. “Just make sure that you look at everything,” she says. “People have different things to offer, and don’t just go past them just thinking that it’s the same thing as the last one. Make sure that you look at all.”
The Marshall County Blueberry Festival begins today at 5:00 p.m. and runs through Labor Day.
