A Plymouth woman was sentenced on Wednesday after she pleaded guilty to charges stemming from her alleged attempts to drown her six-year-old daughter.
Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman says the incident occurred in August of 2015 at 27-year-old Amanda Nethercutt’s mother’s apartment. Officers were dispatched to the residence and allegedly located the mother displaying injuries when they arrived on scene.
Officers were told the suspect had allegedly attempted to drown her daughter in the bathtub. Nethercutt was found in a nearby residence wielding a knife. She was tased and handcuffed before being transported to a mental health services provider for evaluation.
She was charged one week later with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, and other less serious charges.
In exchange for a few of the charges being dropped, Nethercutt pleaded guilty to the Aggravated Battery charge. According to information released by the prosecutor’s office, family members pleaded for leniency in the case due to her alleged history of mental illness.
On Wednesday, in Marshall County Superior Court Number 1, Nethercutt was sentenced to 15 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Two of those years will be suspended.
