Heavy rains from last week are prompting Governor Mike Pence to request federal disaster loans for portions of Northern Indiana.
The governor says that as a result of the severe storms that started on August 15th, he has implored the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide disaster loans for St. Joseph County.
The result of any declaration that comes as a result of the request also includes contiguous counties. That includes LaPorte, Starke, Marshall, and Elkhart Counties. The governor says the Indiana Department of Homeland Security is coordinating with local responders to assist in the damage clean-up.
Following any declaration, those affected by the storms in those communities would then be able to apply to receive assistance.
