Many schools are back in session, while others soon will be. Local emergency management officials remind motorists to once again be alert for kids heading to and from school.
Drivers are urged to slow down and be especially cautious in residential areas and school zones, and to watch for children around roadways before and after school. Be careful when entering and exiting driveways and alleys, and look for kids at intersections, on medians, and between cars.
Always stop for school crossing guards in the roadway, as well as for buses that are loading or unloading passengers. On an undivided roadway, both directions of traffic must stop for a bus with red flashing lights and an extended stop arm.
Motorists are also asked to reduce distractions and avoid cell phone use while driving, to make it easier to concentrate on the road.
