Bremen is the latest community in Marshall County to receive official certification into Indiana’s Main Street Program.
The initiative is operated through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and encourages cooperation among local community members and organizations to revitalize downtown areas. Preservation and downtown improvement are also listed goals through the Indiana Main Street program.
Main Street is also a national program to revitalize downtown areas around the county, with Indiana participating in the process. The offering provides enhancement grants and historic renovation grants if a town is designated as a Main Street Community.
The certification process for Bremen began in late 2015, but the designation resulted from months of planning and organizing.
According to information provided through a Marshall County Economic Development Newsletter, Bremen intends to participate in the program by hosting more downtown events, supporting area businesses, and encouraging projects to the downtown area.
