The fiberglass bison sculpture delivered to Marshall County in May of this year is ready for its dedication.
On Friday at 1:00 p.m. EDT at the Marshall County Museum, a brief ceremony will be held to install the bison as a permanent feature in downtown Plymouth. For 12 weeks, artists from Heartland Artists Gallery have worked to paint the sculpture in a design unique to Marshall County.
The bison is part of Indiana’s 200th anniversary celebration, or as they’re terming it, the “bison”-tennial. The United Way of Marshall County sponsored the fiberglass sculpture, along with the Marshall County Community Foundation.
Artists participating in the decoration donated nearly 200 hours of time to help paint the bison as a white buffalo, considered spiritually significant by Native American populations.
During the dedication – which will take place in the 100 block of North Michigan Street, the name of the bison sculpture will also be announced. Submissions have been taken as part of a competition to help name the art during installation.
