Three months after being seriously injured in a car crash, a Plymouth High School student is on the road to recovery, and his family is turning to the local community for help.
Alex Rostron was found lying on the side of Veterans Parkway on the morning of Sunday, May 1. He was believed to be driving home after prom festivities, when his car veered off the south side of the roadway and struck the bottom of a ditch before hitting a fence. Alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the crash.
According to his family, Rostron suffered a fractured skull and traumatic brain injury. After being released from the hospital at the end of May, he underwent rehabilitation to learn to talk, eat, and walk again. Now, he’s back in school for his senior year and plans to continue running on the cross-country team. However, Rostron’s mother has taken a leave of absence from her job to help with Alex’s recovery process, and now the family’s asking for some extra help covering his medical bills.
As part of that effort, Plymouth Cross Country Coach Curtis Nordmann helped organize a 5k run/walk, scheduled for Saturday, August 20 at 10 a.m. at the high school. The entry fee is $20 for adults and $15 for students, with proceeds going to help the family. Barbecue sandwiches and bake sale items will be available during the event, and a hand-sewn quilt will be raffled off. Click here for the registration form.
For those not planning to attend the 5k, there are also some other ways to help. A GoFundMe account has been set up for the Rostron family. Individuals can also sign up to take meals to the family by visiting TakeThemAMeal.com and entering the name “Rostron” and code 4446.
