Ancilla College to Bless Residence and Dining Halls Today

Ancilla College NEWAncilla College officials are celebrating the completion of two new buildings on the Donaldson campus today. Bishop Kevin Rhoades will be at the college this afternoon at 3 p.m. EDT  to bless the newest residence hall and the recently-added dining hall/student life center.

The two year private school opened its first dorm a year ago. Ancilla College President Dr. Ken Zirkle says the addition of on-campus housing has changed the whole complexion of the college.

“When you all of a sudden have 95 17, 18, 19-year-olds living on campus, that’s a lot different than having people commuting from the different locations, many of whom were already raising families,” Zirkle said. “We still have those people, still have that large number of commuting people that they come in, but all of a sudden you have 95 people that are there 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Zirkle says Ancilla’s on-campus student population will grown to almost 200 when school starts next month.

He adds the addition of on-campus housing has opened Ancilla College up to students from beyond the immediate area.

“I know we have a lacrosse player right now coming from San Diego. I talked to a couple of golfers, young ladies that are looking at golf, twins as a matter of fact, from Illinois. We have some good soccer players coming out of Boston. We have individual students coming from all over. Last year we had some from Texas, some from Kentucky. Obviously Michigan is right next doo, and Ohio. They’re right there, and Illinois.”
