Street repair work may soon be coming to a section of Michigan Street and the Eastwood Subdivision in Plymouth. The Plymouth Board of Works tentatively approved awarding a quote Monday to Pavement Solutions, Inc. of Middletown.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt says that of the three companies the city approached about doing the work, Pavement Solutions was the only one to submit a bid. He noted that the city plans to use micro-surface or slurry seals, depending on the street, and very few companies do that type of work.
Marquardt told board members the project consists of a few smaller components, “We had talked about doing South Michigan and the Eastwood Subdivision, and we did ask for a price, on a third possible project, just to see where it fell, after going through some of the pavement management things, so one was Western Avenue. If it all worked out, we were thinking we may go that way, too, on that.”
The first part of the work includes double micro-surfacing of South Michigan Street from the Yellow River Bridge to Oakhill Avenue for a cost of around $55,000. The second component involves slurry sealing in the Eastwood Subdivision, for just over $42,000. Double micro-surfacing is also being considered for Western Avenue from North Street to the U.S. 30 overpass, depending on how much money’s available. That work would cost just over $50,000. The Plymouth Board of Works voted to approve the bid, pending review by the city engineer and clerk-treasurer.
During Monday’s meeting, the board also voted to hire Jackson Demolition Services of Rochester to tear down structures at 805 and 809 West Harrison Street. A quote was also awarded to Papczynski Construction of Lakeville for the installation of a concrete floor at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, for a cost of just under $20,000 with stamped concrete las vegas quality. That work will pave the way for the addition of a bio-filter at the plant.
