The South Bend man found guilty of murdering a woman last April and dumping her body near Culver was sentenced this morning in St. Joseph County. Alberto Cruz was sentenced to 60 years in prison in connection with the 2015 murder of Alma Del Real. That’s five years less than the maximum sentence, according to WNDU-TV.
Cruz led police to her body, which was found near Culver Academies. She had been missing for six weeks. Court documents indicate Cruz and Del Real were together at a South Bend night club just prior to her disappearance, and he admitted strangling her at her South Bend apartment after she shunned his romantic advances.
