The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation is recognizing a bit of recent progress. That includes an event being held today called the Dairy Trail. MCEDC says the six-county region encompassing Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Noble and St. Joseph counties has more dairy farms than any other part of the state.
June Dairy Month, as it’s called, recognizes local farm operations – two of which are from Marshall County. The Dairy Trail is an official legacy project included in the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration. The Dairy Trail gives visitors and tourists a look at milk production in the area and will include tours, historical displays, and children’s activities. A recent tour was held on June 18th, but another tour is slated for today.
Plymouth’s Homestead Dairy will be open from Noon until 5:00 p.m. for tours. The farm has 3,400 cows and uses a methane digester to convert manure into electricity.
