A Florida man currently incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail now faces charges in connection with a 1997 bank robbery in Miami County. According to the Indiana State Police, the First Farmers Bank and Trust in Amboy was allegedly held up on December 18, 1997. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had allegedly left the bank and run to a vehicle.
Police were unable to identify the robbery suspect, until evidence was submitted to an Indiana State Police Laboratory for DNA analysis. When the results were entered into the Combined DNA Index System, the DNA allegedly matched that of 52-year-old William Stinemetz of Palm City, Florida. That, along with other evidence gathered during the investigation, gave officers enough probable cause to get an arrest warrant.
The warrant, which alleges a felony charge for robbery with a deadly weapon, was served to Stinemetz Wednesday at the Fulton County Jail, where he’s currently incarcerated on criminal charges from Fulton County.
