The vote center model worked smoothly according to the Marshall County Election Board.
This was the first year the process was used. It’s designed to allow residents of Marshall County an opportunity to cast a ballot at any of the available polling locations. Poll pad technology will provide voters with the proper ballot.
Election Board member Sean Surrisi says the board received plenty of good comments.
“Some folks were able to use that last year in the municipal election,” says Surrisi. “But for everyone else that hadn’t yet been exposed to it, I think for the most part we had good feedback.”
Heavy turnout caused lines throughout the day during Tuesday’s primary election, but Surrisi said those wishing to cast a ballot moved through the lines relatively quickly.
Counting the ballots experienced a bit of a hiccup on Tuesday, requiring Microvote – the company tasked with troubleshooting the machines – to help the County Clerk’s office implement a new process for totaling the votes.
Surrisi says the number of competitive races created a small storage problem.
“You know we had contested races predictably on the Republican side in just about every race,” says Surrisi. “State convention delegates, the referendum question in Argos. So there was just more information on the ballot than we could actually have.”
The Clerk’s office will now work to certify the election results in the near future.
Surrisi said the Marshall County Election Board will also meet to review the primary and consider any possible changes heading into November.
