Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson says Indiana reported a 38-percent voter turnout during May’s Primary Election.
The report was developed using voter data gathered in each of Indiana’s 92 counties. Reasons behind the 1.7-million voters who did turn out to vote varying, but the Secretary of State’s office believes that candidates and issues on the ballot were a driving factor.
Voter turnout in 2016 rivaled that of the 2008 primary election. 40-percent of registered voters showed up to the polls during that election.
Vermillion County took the top spot for voter turnout in the state with 51-percent.
In the local area, Marshall and Kosciusko Counties reported 41-percent turnout. St. Joseph county reported 34-percent.
Early voting continues to become a popular trend for Hoosiers. 16-percent of Indiana residents took advantage of the service compared with 11-percent in 2008.
