Voters in the Argos school district rejected a proposed tax increase for the school corporation’s general fund. Unofficial totals indicate 753 votes in opposition and 534 in support of the measure. It would have raised property taxes by up to 61-cents per $100 of assessed valuation to offset declining state revenues.
Argos officials have previously said they may be forced to consider additional cuts and possible consolidation of services with other districts. Small school districts across the state are struggling due to changes in the way the state distributes money.
Results were late coming in from Marshall County due to technical difficulties with the voting equipment.
