The Marshall County Recorder’s office is pleased with the results of a legal settlement with a financial and real estate data company.
A multi-state, multi-county lawsuit was filed against Black Knight, the successor to LPS, after it is alleged the company may have improperly purchased data from governments across the nation. The company specializes in multiple financial and mortgage transaction services as well as property tax data.
Marshall County was one of 13 Indiana counties participating in the suit, but states across the country were participating.
Mediation between Black Knight and its various government clients was scheduled for the end of April, but Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger said he was informed at the time a global settlement may be forthcoming.
Marshall County Recorder Marlene Mahler attended the mediation in Chicago at the end of April. According to discussion during Monday morning’s Marshall County Commissioner’s meeting, Mahler was pleased with the results.
It was initially claimed that the Marshall County Recorder’s office was owed around $40-thousand, but did not anticipate receiving that much due to legal fees and other expenses.
Terms of the settlement have not been made public, but Clevenger says the Recorder’s office is expected to be reimbursed a large portion of the expense.
