The Indiana State Police will participate in May’s Click It or Ticket enforcement blitz.
Officers will patrol state highways between May 6th and May 30th as part of the national campaign to raise awareness about driving with first securing your seatbelt. The campaign is federally funded to place additional officers on streets across the country to reduce the number of fatal accidents.
High visibility patrols and sobriety checkpoints will be used to increase safety on Indiana roadways.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says there were 818 fatalities on Indiana roadways in 2015. About one-third of those fatal accidents involved motorists not wearing a seatbelt.
State Police will also increase drunk driving patrols over Memorial Day weekend.
