Bremen Man Sentenced on Molestation Charge, Deported to Honduras

HandcuffsA 38-year-old Bremen man was sentenced this week to four years in the Indiana Department of Corrections, but it resulted in his deportation.

Luis Padilla was facing a Class C Felony Count of Child Molesting. He was arrested by local authorities after a delayed report was made by the victim in the case. Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman remarked that the case was factually complicated, having no physical evidence to present in court.

Padilla was initially charged with two counts in the case, but a plea agreement was reached, seeing one of the counts dropped. Considering the nature of the case, Chipman said in a press release that it was best for Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tami Napier to resolve the matter as outlined in the plea deal.

Following his sentencing to four years in prison with two of those years suspended, Padilla will now have to register as a sex offender.

He was delivered into the custody of federal agents at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, according to officials with Marshall County. Padilla will be permanently deported to his native country of Honduras.
