A Plymouth man is dead after the car he was driving crossed the center line and struck a semi tractor trailer head on, according to an initial investigation by Indiana State Police. Officers say it happened Wednesday night around 10:30 on U.S. 6 just west of State Road 106 near Bremen. Skylar Evans, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Trooper Pat O’Keefe says police don’t know yet what caused the Chrysler 200 Evans was driving to go left of center and strike the Kenworth semi, which was hauling a steel coil. Police say the impact caused the coil to detach from the trailer and roll forward toward the cab of the truck, narrowly missing the driver, identified as Shawn Vanderveer, 36, of Wauseon, Ohio. He suffered minor injuries.
Currently, Indiana State Police are waiting for toxicology results on Evans, which could take several weeks to complete.
