A small fire at a Plymouth business was kept from spreading after static electricity ignited some materials at the site.
Firefighters were called to the 900 block of Markley Drive around Noon on April 5th to a report of a fire inside the Composite Technology Assemblies building. According to Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller, some of the equipment used at the site has the potential for static electricity – which is what investigators believe happened during Tuesday’s incident.
Only products were affected. The structure itself did not sustain fire damage thanks to the use of the indoor sprinkler system. The Plymouth Fire Department says it conducted small amounts of extinguishing to ensure safety, and was able to mitigate the thick smoke resulting from the flames.
No injuries were reported. Firefighters were able to handle the situation in just under one hour.
