A drug take back event in Marshall County is looking to get unused or unwanted prescription medication out of homes and area trash cans.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department says they will be partnering with their reserves to participate in the National Drug Take Back Initiative. According to a news release, residents can drop-off their expired, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs to officers in the parking lot of the Sheriff’s Department.
Drug take back events are put on across the country to combat statistics gathered from 2009. Those data indicate there were 7-million non-medical users of prescription drugs in the United States. The number of Americans consuming psychotherapeutic medications without a prescription also surpasses heroin, cocaine, and hallucinogenic drugs combined.
The Sheriff’s Department says that by eliminating unwanted supplies of prescription medications, a primary source for abusers can be cutoff.
Officers will be available April 30th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for those interested in utilizing the service.
