The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department says they saw plenty of activity during their March special enforcement campaign.
Increased patrols use federal funding to put a focus on drivers potentially driving dangerously or impaired. According to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 97 tickets were written by local authorities during the 24-day enforcement period, last month. Seven arrests were also made.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that in 2014, an average of one alcohol-related driving fatality occurred every 53 minutes.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute promotes the campaigns to local law enforcement. ICJ Director Dave Murtaugh says a mix of education and enforcement leads to success when combating dangerous and impaired driving.
