The Town of Culver is looking to follow-up on an information project that was discussed several years ago.
During Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting, Representatives of the Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee Visitors Center approached the council about approving the purchase of kiosks to be placed in the community’s downtown and park.
Amy DeLong with the Visitors Center says their board has been considering this project for the last year.
“It’s the nicest one I found online,” says DeLong. “Pretty inexpensive. Once I have [the Town Council’s] approval, then I will approach CRC to help fund those.”
Initial indicators were that the kiosks would be electronic, but a price tag of $10-thousand prevented that idea from moving forward.
A two sided kiosk with proper lighting and containing maps, brochures, and event information is now planned to move forward. The kiosk downtown will be placed on the Southeast Corner of Jefferson and Main Streets in Culver.
The location brought a bit of questioning from the Council about obstructing pedestrian traffic. The location was chose, however, based on the reduced traffic at the site.
The Town Council approved a similar project three years ago, but the work was never completed according to Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe.
“We were going to do way-finding signs,” says Munroe. “In the park and downtown. So I suspect this is already in minutes somewhere, but we have a whole new council since that happened. It’s just one of those things that never got done.”
Approval was given to place the kiosks on Town property, Tuesday night.
The Visitors Center must now approach the Culver Redevelopment Commission to complete the funding for the project.
